Tribute & Message From The Family


Preston Tillery passed away on October 18, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 20, 1932 in Port Arthur, Texas, the son of Sallie May and Robert Preston Tillery. Preston graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business. He enlisted in the Navy in 1954 and served proudly aboard three ships: the USS Compass Island, the USS Graffias and the USS Jason. He was married to Suzan Uhlar in 1958 and had one daughter Christine born in 1964. He remained in the Navy and retired a Captain in 1975 and moved home to Texas. While in the Navy he earned his MBA from Golden Gate University. He used this degree and his experience with purchasing for the Navy to begin a job with Madix. He retired from this second career in 2005. His wife Suzan passed away in 2002. Afterwards he met and married Janice LaRue in June 2003. He has been a resident of Coppell for 10 years and an active member of the Riverside Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Janice Tillery of Coppell; daughter, Christine Thomson of Dallas and husband Scott; stepdaughter, Colette Wirth and husband George Wirth of McKinney; stepson, Stephen LaRue of Carrollton. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Zachary Thomson, Erik Thomson and Olivia Wirth. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm at Restland Coppell Chapel, 400 S. Freeport Pkwy; Coppell, TX 75019. Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00am at Riverside Church of Christ, 150 E. Belt Line Rd; Coppell, TX 75019 with burial to follow at 1:15pm at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Riverside Church of Christ Mission Fund.
